Window and Door Permits in the City of Miami
A Miami mailing address doesn't always mean City of Miami limits, so we confirm your building department first.
- City permits, filed onlineInside city limits, window and door permits generally go through the City of Miami Building Department's iBuild portal. We prepare and upload the product approvals, and the drawings from the licensed architects and engineers we work with.
- Historic homes need moreFor a designated historic property, the city typically asks for a window and door schedule, dimensioned drawings, profile sections and photos, as part of a Certificate of Appropriateness.
- High-rise condosUnder a recent statewide code interpretation, window and door installations in threshold buildings require a special inspector and an inspection plan from the engineer of record. We plan for it on condo towers.
- NOA numbers for every openingMiami is in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone. Your quote lists the Miami-Dade NOA or HVHZ-rated Florida Product Approval number for each product.

Questions
Miami Impact Window Questions
Still have a question? Call (786) 881-3081 or email sales@avraxdevelopments.com — se habla español. We answer Mon–Fri 8am–5pm and Sat 9am–3pm.
Can I install impact windows on a historic house in Miami?
Often, yes. The city typically needs a Certificate of Appropriateness, with drawings and profiles showing the new windows suit the house. We work with licensed architects and engineers on the drawings and prepare the rest of that package, along with the NOA for each product.
Can you replace windows in my condo unit?
Yes. Your association typically has its own rules and approval process. In threshold buildings, the permit also needs a special inspector and an engineer's inspection plan, which we coordinate.
Do impact windows replace hurricane shutters?
Impact-rated windows and doors are tested to resist wind-borne debris, so under the Florida Building Code they can generally serve as the opening protection on their own, without separate shutters.
